Artist Statement
Madison King is a contemporary visual artist currently residing in San Diego. Her political works are heavily influenced by her lifelong California roots and her membership in the late-millennial generation. After what felt like a lifetime in the corporate world, Madison left her cushy yet soulless life for that of the emerging artist. She holds a now defunct B.A. in Political Science from the University of California Santa Barbara and is currently an art student at Mesa City College. Madison’s main mode of creation is digital, but she looks forward to exploring the many physical mediums as her art journey continues to progress. At the ripe age of 26, Madison is just now beginning to find herself.
After a globally devastating year of self-isolation and civil unrest, Madison reconnected with her trauma induced rage, and shifted her work from cute, aesthetic graphics to thought provoking, political paintings. Current themes include anti-capitalism, intersectional feminism, and the crossover between personal and societal trauma. Madison explores the view of the oppressed oppressor and how to move past performative allyship into the role of radical accomplice. She uses her art practice to scream war cries into the infinite abyss, and hopes to one day start a conversation by confronting viewers with the atrocities of their own reality. Madison nihilistically subscribes to the philosophy of death by a thousand cuts and aims to be a knife wielding agent of change.
