A big thank you to Robin Douglas and the Oceanside Museum of Art who held this magnificent Found Art Sculpture Workshop. I appreciated the opportunity to create in a medium that was completely new to my practice and I look forward to continuing to explore all that found art has to offer.
Once I recognized that the found painted wood included here was a tongue, this piece began to make itself. I chose a strong, feminine pattern to stitch into beautiful lips that would devour the reclaimed gold. As a woman, it is in my own interest to dismantle systems of financial oppression, and as a white person it is my duty to help others who look like me recognize and revolt against their own oppressive privileges.
